Plug in a heardphone and set the output chanel to headphone.

Just tried to check the function with firefox and youtube and it worked properly via headphone.

Muscore itself always uses speakers instead. And it doesn't matter if the extended settings of the windows sound system sets Muscore default output to headphones per default.

Did you plug in the headphones before starting MuseScore? or try the "restart audio devices" button in the Edit / Preferences / I/O? These would often be necessary, although the details are system-dependent. Often toggling the MIDI button on the toolbar has the desired effect as well, since it restarts devices as well.
