Hidden Brackets Shouldn't Impact Spacing

• Feb 8, 2021 - 04:07

The default behavior in MuseScore has it leaving space for brackets on the left even when the staff they are a part of is hidden. That is, spacing is incorrect on the left side for all visible parts when the single part with a bracket (like a curly bracket on a piano grand staff) is hidden.

Two examples are attached. Example 1 shows the behavior when the part with the bracket is visible. Example 2 shows the spacing/alignment behavior when the bracketed grand staff is hidden. Note that the staves retain a gap on the left side. This results in an apparent misalignment with left-aligned header and footer content that is only justified when the brackets are visible. Example 3 shows the misalignment with footer text.

Sure!

In the example, the bracketed two-stave organ part appears only on the second page. The first page is meant to replicate a hymnal page without a bracket. The first page allows space for the left bracket even when it is hidden - something that's easiest to see when it's compared with the vertical frame holding the title and the text in the footer.
