Jm6stringer M.I.A.? Creating a ghost choir

• Feb 13, 2021 - 17:01

Jm6stringer helped me create a ghost choir for HTML. We've gotten disconnected; however, it's not like him to not show up sooner or later. I hope someone on the team can reach out to him and make sure he's OK. <3

Jm created an elegant ghost choir Boar's Head Song. I can't replicate it.

The best I can do still leaves a space where the invisible ghost choir plays in the score. I can't submit Jm's work as my own. I can make an second AUDIO file, submit the PNG from the JPG replicate, and also submit the separate AUDIO file. I would love to recreate Jm's single version if possible.

I notice that Jm has his instruments lined up SATBSATB. I used to be able to move instruments to where I wanted them. It's wonderful they seem to pop into their correct place now, but I can't move them. I can enter eight Voice instruments and then change the Voices to SATBSATB; however, it don't change my ability to hide the first ghost choir.

There's one last possible reason. There were a couple of small MuseScore updates between when Jm sent me his version and when I tried to recreate it. That's something for a programmer to ferret out.

Thanks for helping me solve this puzzle. And thanks for checking on Jm. <3

The big difference (both in score order as in visibility) is achieved via the Instruments window. View → Instruments is how you get there.
On the right side, it lists all instruments in your score in the order in which they appear in your score. Remove the tick in the visible checkbox for those you wish to completely hide (in your case the 2nd of each instrument).

I have no means of contacting Jm; but taking a couple of days break from the forum is not uncommon for any active forum member. I'm quite confident he'll pop up in a few days again ;-)

Thanks for replying, jeetee. Of course you're right. Jm is likely taking some Real Life time off. Sometimes I forget we have one. ;)

I unclicked the ghost choir instruments and hid the combined measures; however, the space for the ghost choir after the second verse doesn't disappear. Can you figure out why? I've attached a revised MuseScore and a PNG like the one that will be used in the HTML.

I'm sure I'm missing something to unclick and when you point it out to me I'll slap my head and say, "AHA!"

Thanks for helping. I truly appreciate it. <3

OK.. Here are the additional tricks you're still missing:

  1. Add a system break to the empty/invisible m43. It'll now appear on its own line, and become visible again.
  2. Add → Frame → Insert Horizontal Frame
  3. Resize the frame so the chorus measure is shortened to pretty much match the chorus text. This works a bit better if you also first reduce the layout stretch for the chorus measure to 0. (in measure properties)
  4. From the "Breaks and Spacers" palette, add a "fixed spacer down to one of the measures on the system above (so for example to m42). Chance the height (inspector?) so that the chorus text is nicely centered on that staff. (around 3sp)
  5. Open up the measure properties for the chorus measure again:
    A) make it invisible again
    B) check "exclude from measure count"
