I'm not sure if this has been reported yet, I've looked through the troubleshooting forum but didn't see anything. Might be missing it though.........
I updated to the newest version of MS last week. I've used it twice since then and every new score I create has an echo when placing notes for every instrument.
When I open my old MS scores the bass drum seems to have an echo as well.
Windows 10
I've checked my sound settings for windows and my speakers are assigned to MS. I thought things might have shifted since spending time with Reaper the past couple of weeks.

Do you have a MIDI device attached?

At first I had my prosonus audio box connected but I've tried it without and still the same issue.
What are your settings in Edit / Preferences / I/O? And what soundfonts in View / Synthesizer?
My guess is you have some other program that is receiving MIDI output from MuseScore and that is what is producing the extra sound, not MuseScore. Most likely this is connected to whatever setup you did for Reaper.
You're absolutely right Marc.
I read your reply and went in to take a look. I reset everything and it's sounding great now. It was a quick fix that I had just chalked up to problems with a new version,
Emergency over.
Thank you and Jojo for responding

I had the same issue - playback was kinda buggy and echo-y, changing the buffersize to 4090 in audio settings fixed it for me, hope this helps
