Staves vertically compressed in some pieces
e.g. 'Dream a little dream' has the required vertical size for both systems and TAB. 'If I Fell' does not.
I've looked in Stave/Part Properties, Style/System and also 'Page settings' and both pieces are set the same as far as I can see. Am I missing something blinding obvious here?

Each element of the score requires its own space to avoid collisions. The Volta lines, the tuplets brackets and so on. I think that's why, if I understood the question.
Page scaling 1,964/1,640 is another factor.

Ah, page scaling; something I haven't used before. It doesn't seem possible to enter any values in the field. Are they predetermined depending on imperial or metric units?

Click in the box, use right left arrow, Del one number at a time and enter the desired one or prepare the number (e.g.:1,257) and copy/paste

Copy (1.964 from elsewhere) and paste didn't work. If I delete from the right so that there is just 1. remaining what happens is default zeros are added to the right. This means I had to enter a digit, delete the digits to the right (which were automatically added) etc. until I had the desired final number.
Is there an easier way to accomplish this?

1comma964 1,964

Doesn't work, stops after the 9. Pretty annoying, but I got used to it...

Did you select the entire string (including mm)? Paste works here on Linux

Yes, does not work in Windows

Copy and paste doesn't work on Mac High Sierra V10.13.6 either.
What worked for me was;
select all digits in the field
delete all digits
enter first new digit (software then autofills to the right with zeros)
delete the left most zero
enter another new digit
repeat the last two steps until finished. Laborious and illogical; but works.
