When I split a verse containing notes tied to the previous verse (indicated by red line in 1st snip) the ties and lyric underscores in subsequent verses become distorted (circled in 2nd snip). If I remove the ties and lyric underscores, split the verse, then put them back it's fine.
My version info is Rev OS: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.6.2.548021803, revision: 3224f34.

In order for us to investigate, we would need you to attach the actual score - not just a picture of it - and precise steps to reproduce the problem. it's not clear, BTW, what "split the verse" means here, so be sure to give your actual steps here - what specifically you are pressing or clicking.
Forgive me, I shouldn't type when I'm tired. I meant measure splitting. When I split the measure the errors indicated in the screen cap happened. On the attached file, if I try and split the 4th measure in the 2nd line starting with "And God gave His son" you'll notice tie lines and underscores in the next line get all weird as shown in the attached capture.
Confirmed
In that case, seems likely to be a duplicate of #319227: Splitting a bar adds new ties unexpectedly, but until the cause is identified, maybe worth keeping both reports open.
Here is not (just?) ties but (also) melisma underscores
True. Likely a similar underlying cause, but could well be two separate places in the code that need fixing.
