Simple Beam
Ok, I've read the documentation and I'm probably just missing something. All I want to do is connect 2 Quarter notes with a Beam. This is what I have attempted and nothing happens.
Create new score.
Keyboards, piano
C Major, A Minor Score
Time Signature 4/4
Measures: 6
Add note mode.
Add Quater note
Select note
Off Beam menu
Double click "Start Beam Here" (nothing)
Drag "Start Beam Here" (nothing)
Add another Quarter note to attach it to
Double click and Drag and drop (nothing)
What's the secret?
Thanks

Connecting 2 quarter notes with a beam will produce 2 eighth notes. Is that what you want?
Regards.
The secret is that you cannot beam quarter notes. Beams are used only on eighth notes or less in duration.

Ok, I can see that with 4/4 time but... I tried eighth notes and that didn't fly either. Same result as before, nada. The goal is just 2 notes, connected by a beam designating hitting 2 notes for that beat in the measure.
Just like on the demo for 9.5 in the first measure 4th beat.
WARNING!!! I'm not a musician, barely read music (as of about a week ago). Just trying to take some hand written music and get it into this program.
Thanks for the replies.

Groups of eighth notes will beam automatically according to normal rules for notation. I suggest you read about the difference between quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes, etc. Here's a start: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eighth_note

David,
Thanks for the input. I managed to get it to do what I wanted by toggling the "Reset Beam Mode" via "Layout". After I did that I put 2 eighth notes together and Voila! exactly what I wanted. Everybody probably already knew that but I hate leaving a thread unresolved. Get ready for the next stupid question!
