syncopated drum rhythm
i cant seem to create a synocopated drum rhythm because when i make the snare a dotted quaver it also changes the hi-hat above it because they are connected and i cant seem to disconnect them

To have different rhythms simultaneously you need to have the different rhythms in different voices. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/voices
If it's hi-hat played with the stick, they should normally both be in the same voice. You simply have to work out for yourself how to represent the durations of the notes to make it work. So for instance, even though the snare might be hit on 1, 2, 3, 4 and hence might seem like they should be quarter, you'd notate the note on "2" as just an eighth note if you want a hi-hat on the "and". THis isn't some quirk of MuseScore, it's how drum music is pretty much always notated.
If you need further assistance, please attach your score and describe the exact rhythm you are looking to notate in more detail.
