Misplaced dots

• Sep 1, 2021 - 15:19

Splitting two part chords into two voices (1 & 2) dotted notes in the Bass clef have a misplaced dot after the split. See the example screenshots. This happens at any pitch in the Bass stave, yet not at all in the Treble stave.

The workaround is just to highlight the note and key its pitch, remembering to then key N to exit note input mode.

But the stems in bass clef don't show the default directions (whioudh whould be down) so apparently have been flipped. And maybe that dot too, as what I select the dot and press X it does look like in your example.

Actually with that I can reproduce, enter the notes as per your image, select the measure and press X, then split the voices.

Workaround: either don't flip the stems in the first place or flip back the dot

The cause as far as I can tell is simple - for some reason you forced the stem down on the dotted chord at the start of measure 21 (and similarly forced stem directions for other chords). As mentioned, don't do that - MuseScore handles stem directions automatically. If this came from MusicXML import, first step should be to do Ctrl+A to select all then Ctrl+R to reset manual adjustments like this.

With everything set to defaults, everything should just work. only when things are manually adjusted do you need to start being careful to make your adjustments consistency - when forcing stem direction, also force dot position, etc.

If you are seeing an issue you believe is not connected to the forced stem direction, please give precise steps to reproduce the problem.
