Creating Custom Sound Fonts
Hello, I created a custom sound, and I loaded it into muscore, and when I played it, it sounded different from the original sample I made. Is there anyone here I can communicate with to help with this issue?
The sound is about a half second of something I recorded.
Thank you kindly.

There's very little to go on here and many reasons why it could sound different.
• How did you make the soundfont? What format? What software and parameters?
• Is your soundfont based only on a single sample to cover all pitches and all volume levels?
• Could you upload a short score with the soundfont in use and a link to the sample/s for comparison?
• Maybe the soundfont is small enough to upload here, although you might have to change the extension to .txt

I followed the instructions here.

Thank you kindly for the reply. I recorded the half second sample with a microphone and audacity.
I modified the sample format to what they had on the tutorial which was, 16-bit, mono, sampling rate 44.1K/s .wav format.
I'll prepare a sample soundfont file as an example, and I'll post it soon.

Also, I used polyphone to make the soundfont file as described in the tutorial.

I'll prepare a soundfont file and I'll document everything so you have lots of information to give advice.

Polyphone is very good.
The tutorials are worth reading if you haven't already:

and the manual is also good:

I went through the tutorial again, and I solved the problem. The problem was I needed to play the not at the correct pitch.

The forum is not letting me load wav or mp3 files, but the sample sounds very different at different pitches. I needed to play the sample at the same pitch as the note I identified in polyphone as the root note. :)

When I play the note in musescore at c4 it sounds like a completely different recording as when I play it at c6.

Good to hear it's solved, or are you saying that it's not fully solved?
The correct root note is essential and you have now learnt why. :-)
