More than 256 channels in the mixer causes it to get confused and play the sounds from the wrong staves.
This is very strange. Whenever I change the sound for the piccolo, nothing changes, but when I change the sound for the contrabass pizzicato, the piccolo's played sound changes. The flute and ocarina staves are also broken, but I haven't figured out where their sound is coming from yet.
Edit: I figured out the cause. It has too many channels in the mixer, which confuses Musescore

Also I am using an Ocarina of Time soundfont for this score.
That score is apparently not using a GM soundfont, not the default MuseScore one, right?

yeah, I'm using an Ocarina of Time soundfont I found online, but I wasn't having this problem earlier today.

The instruments are ordered alphabetically in it.
Whenever I add new staves of ocarina to the top, as a replacement, their sounds are also replaced.

Whenever you add a staff (rather an instrument) that instrument's default sound form a GM soundfound is taken, In case of a non-GM soundfont that is not what you expect but whatever sound sits on that patch

I have the default Musescore soundfont at the top of my list, so they said they were playing from Ocarina Expr.

Ah, then it should work indeed. Unless manually changed in Mixer
When I completely replace the contrabass staff with a new one, it just switches over
with no Contrabass staff, I don't have the problem, but when I add one back, it resumes, even with the default Musescore samples

It just does it with any staff in slot #114
Here's one showing the problem without the soundfont. The ocarina staff says it's Ocarina Expr., but it's playing a random sound

Also a new score I got to have the problem. It looks like when you get too many channels in the Mixer, the top couple get confused and start taking sounds from the last couple channels.

It looks like the limit is 256 mixer channels before it gets confused. If you remove one Oboe staff from the score, then it works normally.

Not random, just whatever than non-GM soundfont has at the place where a GM one would have Ocarina expr.
