Plugins for MS2 Beta1
Do we still need to download all the old Plugins we used to use?
EG I 'thought' that adding a dynamic marking (p) followed by a cresc hairpin to (ff) would be read by MS2 and affect the playback. Doesn't seem to be the case on Win 8.1
hence my question
Oh yes, in 1.3 I used to be able to highlight all the notes that the hairpin was to cover (ie click start and end note) then press "H" but not now. Is this achieved differently or is that another 8.1 thing (rather than Linux which I don't have)

The shortcuts for crescendo/diminuendo are now "<" and ">". Except that on keyboards where ">" is the same as Shfit+"." - the shortcuit for staccato - this won't work unless you redefine one of the shortcuts so it doesn't conflict. We're discussing what to do about that; see http://musescore.org/en/node/32991.
As for plugins, most won't work with 2.0 - the plugin architecture has completely changed. We're slowing converting the most important ones; authors of others can do so themselves.
As far as I know, crescendo playback is *supposed* to work by default now, but it doesn't seem to - might have worked at one time then broke. There is an issue filed for this - #4905: Crescendo/decrescendo playback.

and for anyone else reading this who is also a little confused (and using Win 8.1), the diminuendo hairpin is ......... CTRL SHIFT >

I suspect this depends on your keyboard layout.
The best way of dealing with this is to edit the shortcut keys in the preferences dialogue and delete the association of SHIFT + . with staccato, replacing it with something else if you wish.
That will make < and > work for crescendo and diminuendo respectively.
