Figured bass vertical position not responding to negative values?

I'm trying to have figured bass symbols placed over the bass line instead of beneath. According to the manual (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/figured-bass#style), I should be able to move the figures above the bass line by plugging in a negative value for the vertical position in the style settings. This used to work for me by now it's not for some reason? Nothing changes when I plug in negative values.
