superfluous rests
I have tried so many of the suggestions offered on this topic, and I still don't understand why these rests are everywhere. There are only 4 voices and they are all occupied with notes. WHY are the rests there?

Why don't you attach the *.mscz file here?

I suspect it's because you have used four Voices - with 1, 2 in the top stave and 3, 4 in the bottom rather than 1, 2 in the top stave and 1, 2 in the bottom. The Handbook explains what MuseScore refers to as Voices and how to use them.
