MuseScore forcing sound card to a different sample rate

I've seen a few posts about this here, but so far most of them have died since last year or even before with no resolution so I'm posting a new one here to try and get to the bottom of this.

I'm using MuseScore 3.6.2 with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface. In the MuseScore preferences, I have the I/O tab set to use the Focusrite ASIO device and in the Export tab I have the Audio export settings set to use 48k sample rate. With MuseScore closed, I set the Focusrite to use 48k sample rate. As soon as I open MuseScore, it forces the Focusrite sample rate to 44.1k and I have no idea why. This is the only program that does this as all others put it on the user to make the program sample rate match the audio device sample rate rather than the program forcing the audio device to a specific sample rate.

I'm happy to provide any info necessary to help get to the bottom of this as I really like using MuseScore but this issue is becoming very irritating.
