Keyboard shortcut
While Home moves the view position to the start of the score (and end to the last page - which is itself a bit inconsistent), it does not move the play position. Ctrl-F & 1 can be used to accomplish this. But is there a single shortcut to move the play position to the start?

Changing the play position is the "rewind" command. There is a toolbar button for that, and you can define a keyboard shortcut for it if you like. But, you can also use Ctrl+Home to not just position the view, but actually select the first element. This repositions the view and sets the playback position in one step, no customization required.

Thank you Marc, for you prompt reply and help. I noticed that Ctrl+Home seems to select the bar line at the start of the first stave. The play position has not moved (ie hit spacebar or click on the play symbol and play has not moved to the start), until I move to the first note with a right arrow. Thereafter the play resumes at the start. However I have reassigned Ctrl+Home to "Player: rewind" and now I am happy! (Musescore 3.2.3 Ubuntu 20-04).

A very outdated version, the latest (and last) 3.x is 3.6.2 and even that is 1 1/2 years old meanwhile

Definitely update, thousands of fixes and improvements in the years since 3.2.3. I can't vouch for how things were back then, but in 3.6.2, Ctrl+Home definitely sets the playback point as well; I use this all the time.

3.2.3 is the standard offering from the Ubuntu software centre, which certainly looks a bit antiquated now. When I upgraded to 20-04, I looked for a more recent .deb version (which I prefer), but did not find one. I'll certainly upgrade to the new appimage. Is there a .deb version available?

No .deb as far as I know, just the AppImage from the download section of musescore.org

Thank you! The install option on the latest appimage makes it so simple to install. And Ctrl-Home now works perfectly.
