Chord plays, how to turn off?

Using MS 3.6 I have Edit=>preferences=>note input=>
I have play notes when editing checked and unchecked "play whole chord when editing" and "play chord symbol when editing." They should not play.

I'm writing a two part score with single whole note in bass clef and 1/8 note arpeggio in treble clef. I added with Alt-K chord symbols and now the single note at the beginning of the measure plays the entire chord symbol. I don't want it to. HOW DO I TURN THIS OFF?
