Lyrics, title, instrument name etc.. might be encoded in other charset than ASCII in MIDI.
MuseScore should be able to read the charset from the MIDI file if available or ask the user to select an encoding from a dropdown menu.

I guess GuitarPro and Overture Import might benefit from ths too (at least they do have corresponding settings in Preferences > Import)
