Open a previously created MuseScore file. It won't open in MuseScore 4 (even if created by MuseScore 4). Instead, the Window for previous files opens up. If the file being opened is deep in some folder, then I have to go looking for it to place it on the desktop (my easiest way) to open it directly using the MuseScore 4 menu path. This must be a Bug.

Chords play when I set them in not to play using prefs. I have to select all chords and uncheck the Play Box after writing all the chores in. I've made countless files with my "little band" for my students to follow the song. Those chords playing are a killer. Is there a way to never have the chords play? Thanks!
Ain't this 2 different and separate issues?
I'm not understanding what you mean about not being able to open the file. but for chord symbols, the control for the playback is in the gear icon on the playback toolbar. The preferences don't control the playback in the score, they control playback during input.
If you're still having trouble opening a file, please give precise steps to reproduce the problem
