MuseSounds Strings annoyances
Hi, brief user critique here. I've been working on a piece for string quartet in the last days since Musescore 4 was launched, and I am more than happy with the playback provided by MuseSounds. Thank you all for this amazing feature. Still, there are some annoyances, so here we go.
One of this annoyances is the usable range in string instruments. It is cool and pedagogic that a note too high for an instrument won't be played in the midi, except if it happens way too low for the instrument capabilities. Like, a chello will go all the way up to a C#6 with no problem (other than tuning it), but midi playback stops in a G#5. The same happens with the viola and the violin, midi playback stops too low.
On the other hand, it'd be cool if harmonics worked as they work in Noteperformer, for now, the only way of recieving the playback wanted requires a not so wanted notation. (I don't know if this could bring license or copyright problems with the company because I have no idea how these things work, but still, just pointing out something that annoys me.)
At last, and maybe this is the most dramatic one, dynamics are quite a bit all over the place, and they tend to be too exaggerated and do not always offer the unicity in the ensemble you would expect. Like, if the four instruments are playing forte in distant octaves, the mix kind of breaks and hides some of the sound layers. Let alone if you try and compensate each layer of sound with its correspondent dynamic according to its overall importance. I don't know if anyone is experiencing some of this same problems and if any of them have actually a solution I haven't found out, but there you go.
Hopefully these are things that can be improved in the future. Still, this is some amazing stuff. I am more than happy with the work of the people involved in this. And it is completely free. It is just amazing, once again. Thank you everyone! Hope this little review helps in any way.
