Marcato in Jazz big band
I am composing a jazz big band piece, using MuseScore 4. My request is to make notes with marcato shorter. When I add marcato, marcato just makes the notes louder. I would like marcato to be shorter and louder.

I noticed the same in my big band scores. A marcato accent on a quarter note should make it a short accented note. (like it did in musescore 3) Now all Big band scores in musescore 4 are played wrong.
From what I have read, the meaning of marcato to shorten notes is possibly unique to jazz literature. MS version 3.6 seems to interpret marcato that way. Maybe you could simulate the effect in v4 by creating a triplet of a quarter note plus an eighth rest, which gives that "two thirds of a quarter note" effect.
There are indeed (at least) two different common interpretations of marcato. MuseScore 3 used the "jazz" approach, whereas MuseScore 4 uses the "classical" approach. In the future, it is planned to have controls over this. Meanwhile, you can add staccato and hide that.
