- Downloaded and opened Musescore 4.
- Selected preferences for appearance -- paper and background
- Exited Musescore
- Reopened Musescore
- Scores reverted to blank white paper and background
- Tried resetting appearance preferences again multiple times.
- Same thing happened even after restarting computer.
- Uninstalled Musescore 4 and want back to 3.6.2 because this did not bode well for hassle-free use of this app.
(My operating system is Mac OS 12.6.2.)

Did you specifically try wallpaper, and choose one of the builtin files? I can confirm an issue with that on Linux specifically, because the filenames of these are generated separately Other than that it seems to work. And in any case, it is a very minor issue, I wouldn't let that stop you from enjoying the incredibly incredible improvements in both playback and usability!
I confirm this issue. On Linux, even using the default appimage and standard paper backgrounds, doesn't save the preferences and revert to white background every time I start the app.

It happens every single time I open every single score I've ever opened in Musescore 4. Is that enough to be more than "few"?

How often you experience the problem is "reproducability"; how many users experience the problem is "frequency".

I started this thread and can now report that the reproducibility of this problem by your definition is 0 because I went back to MS3. It wasn't just the appearance issue that guided my decision. It also was the sheer number of glitches and crashes reported in this forum. MS3 does everything I need it to do. I don't need all the fancy bells and whistles promised in MS4, especially if it comes with a lot of aggravation. I'll probably jump back in when the daily number of crash reports in this forum declines significantly. Still a big fan of MuseScore.
This is experienced by more than 5 people (such as https://musescore.org/en/node/344225 and https://musescore.org/en/node/337874 as well as https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/15467 is still replicable on version 4.0.2-230651553 on a Windows 10 system). It also does not matter if the background are the default images, quitting and restarting always forces the background back to a plain color. Does this still need more info or should it be kept as active? Thanks!
I confirm this issue in the latest linux nightly build.

Hold on, the fix issue is about colors.
