How to purge everything except notes from an .XML imported file

• Mar 4, 2023 - 21:45

I have scores that are in MS3.6.2 - that were imported from .XML or .MXL exports from other programs. On close inspection, I cannot explain why ANY modification of dynamics are completely ignored. As a test, I'd like to remove all but just the note assignments and durations. How is this accomplished? Thx.

@SteveBlower: Thanks for confirming what I knew. I needed to be sure there wasn't another way to do such.

I discovered today that some scores I posted on .COM had their dynamic expression marks largely ignored. I chose my Piano Concerto #1 movement #2 to run tests on. In MS3.6.2, I opened that score, trimmed it back to only a few measures. Then I removed all dynamics as we've discussed. I re-added the markings with specific care, and this produced NO CHANGE. This score came from an .XML / .MXL import.

Rather than bring MS4 into the mix, I opened the 3.6.2 abbreviated score into a recent development version MS3.7.x to see if the problem was centered in MS3.6.2 score. The dynamics problem still existed in MS3.7.x version.

I went back to the MS3.6.2 AppImage, and re-notated the measures from a NEW SCORE. Then I entered the dynamics markings as were seen from before. Playback of dynamics WAS ACCEPTABLE and as expected...

Why did I do this? To see if there's something about .XML / .MXL imports that "jazzes up" the score to the point where removing all (seen) dynamics markings // and re-adding them has no effect. There appears something 'corrupted' about a few / many scores born from .XML / .MXL importing. This is VERY UNFORTUNATE news, because I can't abide scores on .COM that look a certain way but don't SOUND the way they look.

Not sure where I'll go with this. Thanks for listening.
