MuseScore 4.02 won't open

This seems to be a common topic, with variations -- can anyone help?

opening the app directly or from a file, splashscreen appears for about 1 second and then crashes.

Macbook Pro 2016, latest Monterey
Same problem running from admin account
Have tried re-installing, deleting cache, app support, and preference files
MuseScore 3.6 runs fine
Originally installed from MuseHub, but have now deleted that and downloaded from your site.

What could be causing this? Thanks for any help.
