How do i change the velocity/dynamics of notes?

I'm using musescore 4, although i can swap to musescore 3 if needed.

Basically, i'm making compositions that use the drumset. However, whenever i change the velocity of the crash cymbal, it does nothing. it sounds the same. i think i vaguely remember in musescore 3 it did something, but all it did was change the volume of the note. If you've ever heard a crash cymbal ever, you know that hitting it lightly makes a light sound.

So my main question is, how can i change the velocity of a note so that it changes the playback?
