Inserting music examples into an essay
Hello out there,
I am a music teacher about to take a higher music diploma which requires a substantial essay. The essay is almost finished but for inserting music examples written - mostly of strategies for teaching aural skills (all non-copyright). The essay is overdue because I can't find a way to cut/copy them into the body of the essay which is written using a five-year-old version of Microsoft word. If anyone can help I would be very grateful.
Thanks,
Henry Webster

LibreOffice can read all Microsoft Word formats and also export to them or to PDF.

Dear Churchorganist,
Just to say thank you for your advice. It was kind of you to reply so quickly.

The LibreOffice plugin works well - I wrote it, and use it very often - but it is a bit of trouble to set up. It is worth it if you will be doing a lot of these and need to keep maintaining the document and perhaps edit the examples later. If you're just trying to crank these out now as quickly as possible, it's probably easier to install the Snippet Creator plugin (see Plugins in menu at right of this page) or even install MuseScore 2.0 Beta 1 (which can live alongside 1.3) and using its new Screenshot mode.
You can also just "save as" and give PNG as the file type, then edit out the margins manually. Or change the paper size for each example before saving.

Dear Mr Sabatella,
Thank you very much for your advice. I took your latter 'simpler' option for the time being as I'm not terribly technically-minded but will definitely try the 'plugin' in the future.
Again many thanks,
Henry
