How to write two voices as one with merged flags.
I am used to seeing music written like this.
As you can see, the second voice has merged flags with voice one until voice two's note duration changes and goes into a slur and then the flags on voice two turn downward. I have not found an easy solution for that. I know that by hitting x I can flip the direction of the flags but then when using eighths and sixteenths etc. I run into this problem where the beam is doubled.
So basically, I have this
that I want to look like this
Is there an easy way to do so?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Don't use two voices if you want the notes to share stems - just write these as chords in a single voice.
The solution is to use just one voice (and only two voices in the last measure). See the attached image: voice 1 blue, voice 2 green.

That is what I have been doing recently to solve this problem. It works but not perfectly. The problem with that is when you have 4 or 5 notes in a measure and only the last one or two notes are different durations, the entire measure still has to have all down flags like this.
But I recognize this is a rare problem for most composers and I might just have to settle for that.

You can still combine the first 3 notes, (and delete the voice 2 rests or make them invisible)
I think that you could automate this with a plugin since you can compare note duration in different voices at the same tick position and then hide/show/flip beams and stems as required. All the elements that you need to access are available in the plugin API.

That is an excellent idea! I had been thinking about doing so. Because it is possible to do it just takes time to go through and hide/show/flip everything.
