Use Computer keyboard as fake MIDI

Another free program I use to write music, FamiTracker, has a nice feature that makes composing music a lot easier for people that don't have MIDI keyboards. The program fakes it, by letting the bottom row of keys (z-,) represent C-C and the keys above that represent the sharps and flats (they're staggered like the black keys on a piano). The Q-I keys and the number row are just the same except an octave up. The octave is selected by a tab at the top of the screen (so you can move up and down as the need may be).

This is probably possible in 2.0 by fudging a LOT of hotkeys, but it'd be better if it could be implemented with a special mode or something. Like a checkbox that swithches from hotkey-mode to FMIDI (fake MIDI) mode. It'd be a lot better than the onscreen keyboard.
