How to add strumming patterns to acoustic guitar tab in MuseScore 4
I've been looking everywhere for how to add strumming patterns to an acoustic guitar tab in MuseScore 4, but all the tutorials were for earlier versions of MuseScore, and the handbook doesn't even touch it. Can someone help me with this? It's for a school project. Thanks!
I especially want to differentiate between downward strums and upward strums.

I only have MS3, but a quick look in the Handbook-4 finds this: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/arpeggios-and-glissandi#add-arpeggio
which should help with the up/downwards strums.

That implies that I have to input the chord notes individually, which shouldn't have to be necessary. Is it possible with just rhythm slashes?

no

Can’t you just add plain up and down arrows from the master symbols palette?

Sure, but those need chords to arpeggiate across. A rhythm slash doesn't qualify here

Ah, when the OP mentioned tab I was thinking of a six-line tab with the chords written out. With MuseScore 3 he could use the “Expand chord symbols into notes“ plugin for a hidden stave, but I don’t think it works for MS4.

So I can't just add fretboard diagrams and add a strumming pattern? I was hoping that was the case.

There are plain up and down arrows in the symbols palette. You should be able to combine them with the fretboard diagrams somehow. It would help if yo could post an example image of what you are trying to achieve.

I might be able to figure it out with this info. I'll let you guys know if I do.
