Unwanted expression marks in file
When I import a PDF, expression marks show up out of nowhere, particularly pedal markings all over the place. Is there a setting that can stop those from happening?

Importing a PDF file is not so accurate. Perhaps these elements are recognized as simple graphics and not as the intended markings. First try resetting the layout items: Select all (Ctrl+A) and apply the reset (Ctrl+R). Otherwise, select them and check the properties to see if they are pedal markers, for example.
If not: delete it and set the correct markings from the Musescore palettes.
