smooth panning jerks in version 4.2.1

Hello,
I am using version 4.2.1 on a Ubuntu based operating system (I have tried two of them). Everything I have been using works well.
I have just now got interested in the smooth panning in continuous view, I am looking for a way to make projections to sing to.
On my machine it jerks at the end ( or maybe it is the beginning) of every measure. In many ways it is a minor issue but is annoying and it seems that it ought to be better.
Is there a way to adjust this? Am I missing something?
Or is it something I must just work with?
