Change instrument for certain range of bars

• Mar 27, 2024 - 11:21

I notice that this feature is not working as in Sibelius for example, here it seems to transpose the entire part although I just wanted the Flugelhorn to be changed to C-trumpet for a certain number of measures until it's Flugelhorn again, any input? I "added text-change instrument" and it changed key (the file is imported as an xml-file and made in Sibelius) THe score in C here so the C-trumpet should show the samec as the other instriuments....am I doing something wrong when adding text-change instrument, or is it a bug?

It doesn't seem to work correctly if you have an instrument change and save/open it as XML.

I have created a sample file (mscz, MuS 3.7) and exported it as an xml file. Both are attached.
When opening the xml, the section with the C trumpet is wrong; this section is still transposed like the Bb trumpet. However, the key and the visual position on the staves are correct but the pitches are wrong.

It has nothing to do with Sibelius ...

Ok. No idea why I read " musescore 4 handle that correctly" :-).

Try the following:

  • Delete the instrument change text(s)
  • Add a new instrument change to C trumpet and back to flugelhorn (Bb) at the end of the sequence. The key for the C trumpet is still incorrect.
  • Select the measures of the C trumpet range and use "Tools -> Transpose -> By interval -> Major second, Up". The notes will return to their correct pitch and the key signature is changed to match the C instrument.

FWIW I created a flugelhorn score in Sibelius. Part way through I created an instrument change to C trumpet for three measures, The result was the change was labeled to C trumpet, the three measures were labeled C trumpet. And the automatic return to Flugelhorn, labeled also. I exported as xml. I opened it in MU4 Labels and key changes were correct.
But, create the same score in MU4 and the C trumpet change just says trumpet. And you have to add another instrument change when you want to go back.
