Won't help much in placing them in the measure before, as in that image...
As far as I can tell MuseScore can't do that
Workaround: Don't use grace notes, but notes in another voice and make them small (and hide/delete the leading rests(s))

Rather than "make them small", wouldn't it be better to 'set them as "cue" notes"? I had thought these were actually separate actions, even though the outcome is similar???

I did think of that and tried it but it created a large gap in the right hand part between the last note and the barline. How do I fix that?
You can use "Grace notes after" attached to a silent, invisible note in the preceding bar.
