HELP - Score won't load

• Apr 29, 2024 - 16:56

These 2 scores attached (and other revisions with similar file names) will now not open. I haven't previously opened them since before Christmas. All my other scores in MuseScore 4 (and some created in 3) open perfectly, just none of these. Could anyone help me open either of it, or tell me what I need to do to open it?
TIA
(PS Auto save versions of these two files also appeared, although I cannot open them either)

There's definitely something wrong with the file. But apparently it only happens in MuS 4.2.1.

In 4.2.1, I tried to open the first file by double-clicking it from the Windows File Explorer, MuS opened and showed the spinning "I'm busy" mouse pointer and the titler bar showing "MuseScore 4 (Not Responding)". It never proceeded to open the file. (I waited ~6 minutes.) I killed MuS with the Task Manager and relaunched it.

The second time, I clicked to Open other and selected the file from its folder. MuS gave no response whatever. I waited ~2-3 minutes. I clicked on the Score tab and MuS turned the mouse to the spinning "I'm busy" pointer and the title bar to the "Not Responding" message. Once again, I waited ~5 minutes with no response. I was able to close the application from the System Close button (X in upper right); I didn't have to use Task Manager.

Same responses from the second file, though I didn't wait as long.

I think the problem is in the organ part. You have several hidden staves. Probably to help with registration. Using 4.3 I can delete the organ part and the result will open in 4.2.1.
I took one of your files and Extracted it with 7zip. One of the results was an mscx file. I change the final x to a z and opened with 4.3. The result was an error window which said that staff 21 had 5 measures with too many beats. I can delete the entire organ part and open the result in 4.2.1. No idea if that is the actual problem or not. This makes my head hurt. I would suggest opening in 4.3 and deleting one organ staff at a time until you get a result that will open in 4.2.1. Aspirin, please.
