Copy and paste lyrics by beat?

I'm copying and pasting lyrics for different voices in choir parts, and the text moves around depending on how many notes there are in that particular part -- it doesn't get placed underneath each other by beat.
I wonder if this would be possible? It wouldn't be easy to implement when there are syncopated rhythms etc.
