How to separate notes into two tracks

• Jun 26, 2024 - 02:56

Hi! I wonder if there is any way I can split one track into two tracks? For example, flute 1 and 2 are written in the same track as the example image, as well as the clarinet part.
I know that there's a tool called "Explode", however, it is not successful each time.
Any solution or methods? Thanks

You are right that the Explode tool does not really handle a mixture of notes in two separate Voices and chords in a single Voice:

And I think that asking MuseScore to make decisions about whether or not to split a chord in these circumstances is too difficult. Sometimes we have to do the thinking ourselves!

[EDIT] ... and the answer is to select measures in separate batches, depending on whether there is one Voice in use or two Voices. Then you can explode chords successfully, by avoiding those measures which already contain two Voices. The only case in which manual edits are needed is when a measure already contains both chords and two Voices (e.g. the 2nd measure in your example fragment).
