Unable to download FluidR3_GM.sf2
As an absolute rank beginner … I can't play a musical instrument and have only the most basic familiarity with notation, I nonetheless was able to use MuseScore to create a short (5 bar) melody-line that expressed what I could hear in my head. Wonderful! Full marks MuseScore!
But then I got greedy and wanted to use something other than the piano 'font' available. "FluidR3_GM.sf2" was recommended and I found the link to the MuseScore download. However, so far I have been unable to get more than about 30 mb before it cancels/quits. I am using an Intel iMac running Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger), with 2 gb of RAM available, and have tried using both Camino and Safari as browsers, while accessing the Internet via DSL … a combination of option that has so far never given any trouble.
Can anyone tell me where or how I can get the whole .tar.gz file, OR an alternative library of equivalent capability.
Many thanks in anticipation.

I'm not sure why the download is breaking for you. Try a smaller SoundFont instead. TimGM6mb.sf2 is only 6MB.

Thanks David. Is .sf2 the only sound file format that will work with MuseScore?

Yes. And it's better if the soundfont is "GM compatible", meaning it has all the General Midi instruments in it.
