Playback Settings
The Playback settings gear symbol on the top bar is obscured by the metronome value next to it. This occurs on the Ubuntu version of Musescore 4.3.2. the symbols need to be spread out.

Do you mean the official AppImage downloaded directly from this site? If you're using a third party build downloaded from elsewhere, those are known to have problems. With the official AppImage, it should work fine, although do make sure your window is wide enough.

Downloaded from somewhere else or @elsewhere? 🤣

I install MuseScore via the Software app on Ubuntu 24.04. This gives various versions including the latest version 4.3.2 that it installs via Flathub.

Those are exactly the sort of untested and unsupported third party builds that often have problems like this (and worse). Only the AppImage downloaded and installed directly form this site is built, tested, and supported by the MuseScore team. All else is use at your own risk.

The problem with an AppImage is that it doesn’t install in a straightforward manner. The purpose of a Flathub installation is to make installation easy rather than difficult.

How is running the AppImage with the “install” command-line option not straightforward?
Anyhow, there are certainly tradeoffs between the two formats and religious wars fought over which is better for more users. And it’s certainly possibly that someday the situation will change enough that Flathub becomes the platform of choice for the MuseScore team to build, test, and support. But that’s not the case today. If you want software that was configured and built correctly, tested thoroughly, and supported here on MuseScore.org, you need to use a version provided by the MuseScore team, not by someone rando on the web who happens to have a working C++ compiler on their system. That’s just plain common sense backed up by years of experience that show over and over again, third party builds are seldom built correctly, pretty much never tested in any way whatsoever, and are known to be often full of hard-to-diagnose bugs as a result.
