Save global default style (for all scores)
Is there any way to set a default style (font for different texts, etc.) for every new score?

Loading it in preferences does not seem to make it the default for all new scores that I make thereafter

In Edit > Preferences > Folders make sure you have a folder available in 'Styles' and that it contains MuseScore (.mss) style files.

In Edit > Preferences > Score enter the desired default (.mss) file location in 'Style'.
This picture shows my default for new Lead sheets:
Re-start MuseScore.
When you create a new score use 'Choose instruments' and your new score should assimilate the default style.
If you choose 'Create from template' then you will have to use Format > Load style... to over-ride the template.
