MIDI keyboard buttons not mappable?

I am using an Arturia Keylab 49 with musescore, and have found that none of the buttons/controls/dials are being recognized when trying to set MIDI mappings. The midi note input works perfectly, but the controls would be immensely helpful for setting shortcuts.

Other than restarting, ensuring I connect the keyboard before launch, are there any best practices or things to try to fix this?

In Edit > Preferences > MIDI mappings, ensure that "MIDI Remote Control" is checked.
Instead of buttons/controls/dials, try assigning MIDI keyboard keys (notes).
