MuseScore Studio 4.4 Beta

• Aug 13, 2024 - 15:37

Hi everyone,

We're pleased to announce that a beta release is available for the upcoming MuseScore Studio 4.4. You can download it for:

Once the beta is installed, it will show up on your machine as “MuseScore 4 Testing”. You can install it alongside your current version of MuseScore Studio, but you should be aware that the two versions will share preferences and workspaces. Also, if you save any scores with 4.4 then you won't be able to open them with older versions of the application.

See this post for a list of new features in the 4.4 release. Highlights include:

  • Enhanced playback engine for dynamics and percussion
  • Qt 6 with native support for Apple Silicon
  • Significant engraving improvements for lines, lyrics, hairpins and dynamics.

New Muse Sounds are already available via the recently refreshed Muse Hub on Windows and macOS. If you're using an older version of the Hub you'll need to uninstall it before you install the new version. If you experience any issues with the new Hub or the products inside, you can report these within the Hub application via the product page for the product in question.

Also in beta is the new Muse Drumline sound pack. This is to be released in tandem with 4.4, but you can sign up for early access here if you want to try it out before then.

For Linux users, unfortunately the new sampler update isn't quite ready yet. This means that the new playback enhancements won’t yet work with Muse Sounds on Linux, and there will be a slight delay bringing drumline and full support for choral libraries. We are working on this at the moment and will bring you updates as soon as possible.

As always, if you see anything amiss in the 4.4 beta, please:

  • Try to reproduce it in the latest nightly build.
  • Check for existing issues on GitHub.
    • If you find one, upvote it 👍. Only comment if you have something meaningful to add.
  • For new issues, provide a short, meaningful title that describes the specific problem.
    • Playback bugs: create a minimum reproducible example and upload a screen recording (with audio) to demonstrate it.
    • Engraving bugs: attach a problem score and screenshots.
  • Keep comments and descriptions short.
    • Use the <details> tag to hide supplementary info, like build logs.

Thanks for your support!

The MuseScore Team

For people who signed up to the early access program, Muse Drumline is now available on the Library page within Muse Hub. (Not on the Muse Sounds page.)

If you experience any issues with Muse Drumline or other Muse Sounds, please report these within Muse Hub via the product page for the product in question. There's a dropdown arrow next to the Downloaded button that includes the facility to report a bug.

Don’t believe so - I’ll have to check musehub though.

I would love to try out the Drumline beta but this download system seems like it could be improved - maybe make it available for anybody through muse hub and just have a warning that’s it’s only for 4.4 testing rather than a manual process

Will musescore studio 4.3.2 plugins work on 4.4? I am interested with the “traditional Vocal beaming master” plugin. Thank you.

Along with the better playback for percussion and the Drumline sounds, will there be any more sounds for percussion for just general orchestra? Such as flexatone, Ratchet, Vibraslap, Brake Drum, Sandpaper blocks, and Whip/Slapstick? Heavily for Ratchet and Whip. The Whip sound is just the rim shot sample for the MS Basic Marching Snare Drum. Unless its coming out for 4.5 with the better drum input pallete of course.

I signed up for early access to Muse Drumline around a week ago but I'm still not seeing it show up in my library page. Are accounts still being enabled to use the feature or have they stopped? Sorry if this has been asked already.
