Muse Score Studio 4.3.2 playing fast and no notes after some modifications

I'm learning to use MS studio. When I make some modifications to the score, sometimes when I play it back (and I'm not sure what I'm doing regarding the editing that makes this happen, if the editing makes it happen at all), when I try to play it back the playback vertical line moves really fast, no matter what speed I set on the metronome, and the notes don't play. all I hear is a brief bit of static for each note. Anybody have this problem?

I have to restart the computer to make this go away.
