Are score playbacks in Concert C pitch?

• Aug 26, 2024 - 17:46

I am trying to play guitar along with the score, but I am noticing that it is "out-of-tune" with my standard (Concert C) guitar tunning. Is there a way to slow or speed up the score playback so that I can play it against a Concert C pitch score?

But that only changes how notes are displayed it doesn't affect their pitch. If the button is pressed, the notes are displayed at the pitch they sound. If it is not pressed the notes of transposing instruments are displayed at their transposed pitch. A guitar transposes an octave down and therefore the score will show notes an octave lower when the button is pressed than they show when it is not pressed but they will sound the same whatever the state of the button.

Is your guitar tuned to A = 440Hz?
If not, then it is "out of tune", but this is not caused by Musescore.
If so, check the sample rate settings on your computer. It should be 44.1kHz.

BTW: Musecore does not change the pitch when you slow down or speed up playback!

Thanks for all the recommendations. It turns out that I was trying to stream the score playback through Bluetooth that is connected to a Mustang Micro Guitar Headphone Amp. Apparently, the Bluetooth connection affects the actual pitch of the score preventing me to play in Concert pitch. Perhaps something for developers to consider.

Hmm. You are right of course. I have come across this on a piece for clarinet I'm learning. That is, for me at least, a very unsuspected source of the trouble.

Two points. You suggest it might be sample rate of the bluetooth device. I can't change it for the device I have. I guess this will just have to be a feature.

Secondly is there an out of tune checklist any where? Don't use Bluetooth devices to check if the software is okay should be an early trouble shooting step. Happy to write it if there is a place it could support other users.

Hi,
Sorry I was not expecting you to fix it. As I say my cheap device doesn't allow changes. The second point was an offer to put together a Trouble shooting for "My score is not playing at the correct tone". Fixing this felt like there are a lot of moving parts in that and a quick tour of the support needed a fair number of visits ti various features in the software. And look it turned out to be Windows and a cheal LG device. Nothing to do with the software.
A fix it guide might describe something like

Are you using Bluetooth? If so stop it just to check the tone.
If tha fixes it it's a bluetooth problem ....
If not are you using a transposing instument? Check here and here.
Is it transposing the correct amount check here.

This is a very rough cut. If it would be useful and could be added tot he documentation I would be happy to do a detailed draft.
