Cannot move sections in MuseScore

• Sep 9, 2024 - 01:20

I have a score that has a lot of time signature changes and tempo changes. But, i built a new section at the end to copy and paste into its place when ready.

This doesn't seem to work. It won't paste because tuples would cross measures if only the notes and not the time signature changes are copied. When I paste in the notes, other things, like tempo changes do not copy.

I am gathering that MuseScore developers never contemplated that anyone would ever need to rearrange a score. My peers are chastizing me for using free software when "real" software is also available.

This is a very serious limitation. In other respects, I like MuseScore better, but fact that copy and paste only works with notes and not sections as a whole makes the whole thing seem rinky-dink.

Note: I have used MuseScore a long time, and this is the first time I've tried to do it. So, I won't really stop using MuseScore, but it is as shocking as if Word could not move a table or Excel would not let you interchange columns.

Yes, there are lots of time signature changes and tempo changes and other things that would have to be rebuilt before using copy and paste. I know how to do it, but problems do crop up, such as all the notes shifting between measures in the music that happens after where you are moving the section to when you change the time signatures for individual measures. I worked around all those things, but the ability to move a section in tact would have avoided it.

In the meantime I guess you'll need to make sure the signature and tempo changes in the area you are copying to are the same as what you are copying.

Clearly that is how you work around MuseScore's lack of ability to rearrange the score.

If word could not copy tables , I would create a new table with the same properties and then copy the contents of the cells with copy and paste.

You would not want to do that because the table might be complicated and there might be a lot of them.

Similarly, I do not want to recreate the complicated structure of a section of music over again, and perfectly, and then use copy and paste only for the notes.
