Lead sheet help

• Oct 2, 2024 - 06:16

I'm creating a lead sheet of chords and lyrics. In one section, there is an a capella voice singing over a drone. The drone goes for many, many measures and I don't want to type in whole note after whole note when I can just tell the performer to play that throughout the section. I'm having trouble attaching more than one word to the whole measure rest symbol and I'd prefer not to configure each note of the song. This is pop music, not classical. Is there a way to easily put in the lyrics without attaching them to notes?

No, lyrics are inherently attached to notes or rests. You might, however add a vertical frame and simply type the words into it.

In the example file I created the notes and added the multi-measure repeats. I selected the first measure on the second system and clicked to Add / Frames / Insert vertical frame. The vertical frame is thus attached to that measure and is the width of the page above it. Then I right-clicked on the vertical frame and clicked to Add / Text from the context menu.

Hope this helps!
