Exporting Finale document options into MuseScore

• Oct 5, 2024 - 04:10

If you are a current or former Finale user interested in importing your Finale document options into MuseScore 4 styles, I have just released a (totally free) Lua script for Finale that does just this. It has two menu options that address the following use cases:

  • The ability to create default MuseScore styles that match your Finale document's equivalent. You might use this to transfer settings from your favorite Finale document style and then use that as the basis for your default styles in MuseScore->Preferences->Score->Style and Style for part.
  • The ability to improve MusicXML imports from Finale by loading the corresponding Style file after importing.

You can find the script here along with information about how to use it. The site also has instructions for how to set up the Lua interpreter for Finale.

You have to have access to a running copy of Finale to run the script and the Lua plugin, but the free demo versions of Finale may work as well. I haven't tried them, so I am not certain, but I know of no reason they won't. If someone tries a demo version, please post the answer here.
