Copy and paste lyrics

• Oct 7, 2024 - 17:11

I'm using the latest version of Musescore. I've somehow lost the ability to copy lyrics from one voice and paste them into another (a very handy timesaver). I select the desired lyrics, hit command-c or Copy in the edit menu, then select the first note of the passage to which I want to add the copied lyrics, then command-v or Paste, but nothing happens. Might my score be corrupted? I imported it as a music xml file from Logic Pro, and I think I got a corrupted file notice when I first opened it, but not anytime since then.

One thing I notice is that some operations don't work if the Note Insertion
is illuminated. Try putting it off and maybe it will work. Jeff

Dear Rowaja, "Note Insertion" is simply putting notes (and rests) onto the stave.
Here is a Video, that I found explaining the basics - It may not look exactly the same
as it would on your screen, but the principle is the same.
I think he is using MuseScore 3 - Here is the address for the video:

"Note Insertion is the Button you will find in the Left hand side of the toolbar."

That is the Input button. In Musescore 4 Its icon changes with the selected input mode. The pencil refers to the default Step time mode. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/entering-notes-and-rests#Entering_n…

In Musescore 3 it was an N with the left upright of the N trying to look like a note.

In both Musescore 4 and 3 Input mode can be toggled on and off with keyboard shortcut N

It works for me, without any problem at all. I simply click the first word in the lyric to select it, then Shift+click the last word in the lyric to select them all. Ctrl+C to copy. Then I click on the note in the other stave where the lyric is to begin and press Ctrl+V to paste.
