my work isn't playing back properly

• Oct 16, 2024 - 23:39

I first built the score I'm working on in MS3, which I much prefer to MS4, but I thought I'd try to warm up to MS4 and opened my score in it. Because I hit the save button before I closed it, now it won't open in MS3, and when I open it in MS4 and try to play it back nothing happens. It did successfully play from MS4 before.
How do I revert it back to MS3, or alternatively, how do I get it to play in MS4?

There is no backward compatibility with Musescore.

If you want to use both Musescore versions, make a copy of ..\Musescore 3\scores" to "Musescore 4\scores" (or something similar) and only then open it in Musescore 4 from its directory.
For "Bit of McBride" I attach the version that can be opened with Musescore 3 (created with 3.7).

You score plays for me in 4.4.2.
But, as suggested, make a copy of your MU3 scores folder and use that to open in MU4 should you decide to try again. Mu3 and MU4 are much different programs. Some call MU4 an upgrade. Some call it a regression. They're just different. Personally I prefer MU4. But only because I like Muse sounds better than Basic sounds. I write for playback. So all the advancements in how the score looks don't mean anything to me. We each have to use the version that works for us.
