updating to 4.2.x
Since I am unable to update to 4.4.3, I've been able to open v. 4.0 and continue my work. Of course, I have some files that I'm unable to access since they were written in a 4.2 version. How can I upgrade from 4.0 to 4.2?

By downloading and installing 4.2.1, from https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/releases/tag/v4.2.1
But why not 4.3? You'd get 4.3.2 from https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/releases/tag/v4.3.2
And what prevents you fron updating to 4.4.3?

Thank you Jojo-Schmitz. I downloaded the 4.3.X DMG and when I attempted to open it, I received the following:
The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again.
This is the same window I received when attempting to upgrade to 4.4.x. Any ideas? I have no idea what files are referred to.

No idea, esp. as this is for Macs which I have no knowledge about

That's the problem. There are no files shown, only icons for adding the MuseScore app to the Applications folder. Apparently the problem is in some files on my Mac but I have no idea where to look for them.
