To cutaway or not to cutaway
I have an orchestral score where I need to print out parts using multiple staves. I can hide empty staves and use the cutaway feature but sometimes all parts have multiple rests and only the main part shows them (the other staves have been cutaway!!)
Is there a way of manually overriding the cutaway option. I have used a forced line break but that is not always satisfactory.
(I hope I've included a screenshot!)

but a .mscz file would possibly be more useful, and a clearer explanation of what you want the parts to look like.
Sorry. I've just discovered how to do it! Thanks anyway.

So tell us how to do it! That's the entire point of these forums. :-)
It may be something that the experienced people already know ... but it may be something useful and new even for us. It's almost certain to be useful for a beginner user sometime.

I had not realised that the stave/part properties we independent for each part. You can modify the part formatting without affecting the other parts.
In the properties for the main part, select Hide when empty to "Never". For the other parts, select "Always" hide. To format the page, put in system breaks where the parts split or re-join. If that doesn't work well, copy the top part into the lower part.
I was using cutaway when it was not necessary and now multi-bar rests are displaying on all staves where necessary.
